See Website: www.andreakelland.co.uk

Andrea's recollections:

I remember a couple of inspirational and important things he asked of me ... one was to experiment with p.v.a. (a new material then) he painted this white stuff all over rather a good watercolour study in my sketch book, then said 'you'll be able to wash it after' ... then asked me to take it and use it in different ways, on various materials ... see what I could do with it ... it was good! The other was in life-drawing, when he'd observed I was delineating the form, ... he said 'why don't you try drawing it from the inside, out?'

Cailean MacKirdy. Beckenham School of Art.
See the BSoA Website: www.beckenhamschoolart.org

Cailean's recollections:

We were all enamoured by Samuel Palmer, Turner, Constable and our paintings were very English looking. A fact that I have since discovered as quite popular when I exhibit in New York.

Carolyn White. Kingston Polytechnic (Kingston College of Art)
