Artist's Comment

The young Alice begins the descent. My grave Alice, my dream child, acknowledges me across the long years as she falls ever more distant from me. I have given to her, for her journey, all my most magical and treasured possessions, some of which I have painted for over fifty years. I could not have found a more perfect model and she inspired me, soon after we first met, to completely rethink my original painting and paint this one - which could not be more different from my original idea.
