Jann Haworth ~ Artist Profile

Biographical Notes

Jann Haworth was a member of the Brotherhod of Ruralists for around five years and made a significant contribution to the group during that time. Her work was varied - collage, mixed media constructions, needlework, etc - giving the Ruralist exhibitions of the time more three-dimensional content that they have had since. However, her work was less "rural" inspired than most of the other members of the group and owed less to the Ruralists "heroes" of Palmer, Clare, Elgar, et al.

Haworth was born on Los Angeles in 1942 and started her training at UCLA. She moved to England in 1961 and studied at the Slade School of art until 1963. She married Peter Blake in 1963 and was a vital part of the development of Pop Art in Britain.

The couple separated in 1979 and Haworth returned to the USA in 1980. She settled in Provo, Utah, and founded the Sundance Artshack Studio, where she works as the Visual Arts Director and tutors in Fine Art Painting, Drawing and Sculpture). She has written several books on artistic training and teaching for children.
